  • Processor: Third-party service providers acting on our behalf.
  • Verification Data: Data generated during optional face liveness verification, including face images, liveness results, and face matching scores.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Data You Provide

  • Registration: Name, email, mobile number, date/time/place of birth, gender, profile photo.
  • Profile Content: Education, profession, religion, community, caste, gotra, prompts, interests, relationship goals, lifestyle preferences.
  • Optional Face Verification: Identity verification is not mandatory to use Astroverse.
  • Communications: Messages, chat content, feedback (e.g., "We Met" updates), audio messages, GIFs.
  • Payment Information: Payment details and transaction history processed via secure third-party payment gateways (Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or other payment processors). We do not store your credit/debit card details directly.

2.2 Automated and Technical Data

  • Usage Data: App logs, screen interactions, feature usage, swipe actions, match interactions, notification engagement.
  • Device Data: Device model, operating system, IP address, device identifiers, app version, language settings.
  • Location Data: GPS coordinates, network-based location where permitted. Location data is used for showing nearby profiles and calculating distances.
  • Cookies & Similar Technologies: Session cookies, local storage for preferences (applicable to our website at astroverseapp.com).

2.3 Face Data and Biometric Verification

To enhance user authenticity and platform safety, we offer an optional face liveness verification feature. This verification is not part of the mandatory onboarding process - it is a user-initiated action that you can choose to complete at any time to build trust on your profile and improve your match quality.

What We Collect:

  • A face image captured during the liveness check process
  • Liveness verification results confirming you are physically present
  • Face matching scores when comparing your liveness image with your profile photos

How We Use Face Data:

  • Verify you are a real person through liveness detection technology
  • Store a reference image to authenticate profile photos you upload
  • Ensure your photos are genuinely of you, preventing impersonation
  • Maintain platform integrity by preventing fake profiles and catfishing
  • Award a verified badge on your profile to signal authenticity to other users

Important Privacy Safeguards:

  • Face liveness verification is entirely optional and user-initiated
  • Face data is used ONLY for verification and safety purposes
  • We do NOT use facial recognition to identify or track users across platforms
  • Face images are NOT shared with other users or third parties (except our verification technology partners as described below)
  • We do NOT sell or use face data for advertising or marketing
  • Face data is NOT used for login authentication after initial verification
  • You can request deletion of your face data at any time

Technical Implementation:

  • Liveness detection may be processed through one or more of our technology partners, depending on the verification method available at the time of your verification.
  • Regardless of which technology partner processes your verification, all face data and verification results are stored securely in our encrypted databases.
  • Access to face data is restricted to authorized security and trust team members only.
  • We use cloud infrastructure with encryption at rest and in transit for all stored face data.

2.4 Astrological Data

Astroverse uses Vedic astrology as a core component of its matching system. We collect and process the following astrological data:

  • Birth Details: Date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth - used to generate your Kundli (birth chart).
  • Kundli Data: Your generated birth chart including planetary positions, house placements, Rashi (zodiac sign) and other astrological attributes.
  • Compatibility Scores: Compatibility scores calculated between you and potential matches.

How We Use Astrological Data:

  • Generate your personalized Kundli (birth chart)
  • Calculate compatibility scores with other users for matchmaking
  • Display compatibility breakdowns to you and your matches
  • Personalize your discovery feed based on astrological compatibility thresholds
  • Improve our matching algorithms

Important Notes:

  • Your exact birth time and birth place are never displayed to other users. Only your zodiac sign and compatibility scores are visible.
  • Astrological data is stored on our servers.
  • You can update your birth details only once after Onboarding, which will regenerate your Kundli and recalculate compatibility scores.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use collected data to:

  • Provide & Improve Services: Matchmaking based on preferences and astrological compatibility, profile display, chat functionality, discovery feed curation.
  • Personalize Experience: Recommend compatible matches using our algorithms, curate daily profiles, generate top pick selections.
  • Security & Compliance: Optional identity verification, fraud detection, content moderation (including photo moderation via automated systems), enforcing community guidelines, legal obligations.
  • Communication: Send transactional alerts, push notifications (match alerts, message notifications, chat expiry reminders), and marketing communications (with consent).
  • Analytics & Research: Usage analytics, product optimization, understanding user behavior to improve matching quality.
  • Billing & Collections: Process subscriptions via app stores, manage referral rewards.
  • Customer Support: Respond to inquiries, resolve issues, provide assistance.
  • Legal Compliance: Comply with applicable laws, regulations, court orders, and law enforcement requests.
  • Safety: Moderate content using automated systems and human review to detect and remove inappropriate content, fake profiles and policy violations.

3.1 Legal Basis for Processing

We process your Personal Data based on the following legal grounds:

  • Contract Performance: Processing necessary to provide Services you requested (matchmaking, chat, profile features, astrological compatibility).
  • Consent: Where you have given explicit consent for specific processing activities (e.g., marketing communications, location tracking, face liveness verification).
  • Legitimate Interests: Our legitimate business interests in improving Services, ensuring security, preventing fraud, conducting analytics, and maintaining platform integrity.
  • Legal Obligation: Compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes (e.g., data protection requirements, tax obligations).
  • Vital Interests: To protect your safety or the safety of others in emergency situations.

4. Disclosure and Sharing

4.1 With Other Users

Profile details and photos you choose to share are visible to matched users and users who discover your profile as part of normal matchmaking functionality. Your exact location, birth time, and contact details are never shared with other users.

4.2 With Service Providers

Third-party processors (hosting, analytics, payment gateways, verification services) operate under contract and confidentiality obligations. These providers have access to your Personal Data only to perform specific tasks on our behalf.

Note on Face Verification Partners:

  • Provides liveness detection technology in real-time but does NOT retain your data on their servers after processing. All data storage and management is handled directly by Astroverse under this privacy policy.

4.3 Legal Requirements

Disclosure to law enforcement or regulators when required by law or to protect rights, safety, or property.

4.4 Business Transfers

In connection with mergers, acquisitions, or asset sales. We will notify users and require the transferee to honor this policy.

4.5 Aggregated and De-identified Data

We may share aggregated or de-identified data that cannot reasonably be used to identify you for analytics, research, or business purposes.

5. Data Retention

We retain Personal Data only as long as necessary for:

  • The purposes outlined in Section 3.
  • Compliance with legal, tax, or accounting requirements.
  • Resolving disputes and enforcing our agreements.

Face Data Retention:

  • Face liveness image: Retained securely for the duration of your account to verify profile photo authenticity.
  • Verification results: Retained for your account lifetime for safety and audit purposes.
  • Account deletion: All face data permanently deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
  • Data deletion request: Face data removed within 30 days of your request.
  • Suspended/banned accounts: Face data may be retained up to 90 days for safety and legal compliance.

After the retention period, data is securely deleted or anonymized.

6. International Data Transfers

Your Personal Data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including India and other jurisdictions where our service providers operate. These countries may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.

When we transfer your data internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including:

  • Standard Contractual Clauses approved by regulatory authorities.
  • Data Processing Agreements with third-party processors.
  • Compliance with applicable data protection frameworks.
  • Technical and organizational measures to protect data integrity and confidentiality.

By using our Services, you acknowledge and consent to such international transfers of your Personal Data.

  • Face data can be deleted upon user request or account deletion.

While we implement robust security measures, no system is completely secure. You acknowledge that you provide your Personal Data at your own risk. In the event of a data breach affecting your information, we will notify you and relevant authorities as required by law.

8. Children's Privacy

Our Services are intended for users aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect data from minors (individuals under 18 years of age). If we learn of such collection, we will promptly delete the information and terminate the associated account.

  • Objection or Restriction: Object to or restrict certain processing activities, such as marketing communications.
  • Data Portability: Request a machine-readable copy of your Personal Data.
  • Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent (e.g., face verification, marketing), you may withdraw it at any time.
  • Lodge a Complaint: File a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe your rights have been violated.

9.2 Appeal Process

If you believe an action taken on your account (such as a warning, restriction, suspension, or ban) was made in error, you may appeal by contacting us at support@astroverseapp.com with "Account Appeal" in the subject line. We will review your appeal and respond within 15 business days. Appeals are reviewed by a team member who was not involved in the original decision.

9.3 Communication Preferences

  • Marketing Communications: Opt-out of promotional emails by clicking "unsubscribe" or adjusting settings in your account.
  • Push Notifications: Disable push notifications through your device settings or in-app notification preferences. You can customize which categories of notifications you receive (matches, messages, likes, promotions, announcements).
  • SMS/WhatsApp Messages: Opt-out by contacting support or adjusting your notification settings.

9.4 Cookie Management

You can manage cookie preferences through:

  • Browser settings to block or delete cookies.
  • Third-party opt-out tools for advertising cookies (e.g., NAI, DAA).

Note: Disabling certain cookies may impact functionality and user experience on our website.

9.5 How to Exercise Your Rights

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@astroverseapp.com with your request. We will respond within 30 days (or as required by applicable law). We may request additional information to verify your identity before processing your request.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other operational reasons. When we make material changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy.
  • Notify you via email, in-app notification, or prominent notice within the Services.
  • Provide at least 30 days' notice before the changes take effect for material changes.
  • For non-material changes, update the policy and post the revised version.

Your continued use of the Services after the effective date of the revised policy constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not agree with the changes, you should discontinue use and may request deletion of your account.

We conduct due diligence on all third-party providers to ensure they maintain appropriate security and privacy standards. However, we are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.

13. Automated Decision-Making, Profiling, and Matching Algorithms

Astroverse uses algorithms and automated systems to:

  • Generate matchmaking recommendations based on your profile, preferences, location, and Vedic astrological compatibility.
  • Curate your daily discovery feed using a combination of preference matching, astrological compatibility thresholds, and profile quality signals.
  • Select top pick profiles using a desirability scoring system that considers profile completeness, engagement patterns, and compatibility with your preferences.
  • Personalize your experience by showing relevant profiles and content.
  • Moderate content using AI-powered systems to detect and flag inappropriate photos, fake profiles, and policy violations.
  • Detect and prevent fraud including fake accounts, spam, and Terms violations.
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve Services and user experience.

How Our Matching Algorithm Works:

Our matching system uses several factors to recommend profiles to you:

  • Your stated preferences (age range, distance, gender)
  • Astrological compatibility scores (between you and your potential matches)
  • Profile quality signals (completeness, photo quality, verification status)
  • Engagement patterns (how active a user is on the platform)
  • Your proximity to other users

These automated processes do not produce legal effects or significantly affect you in a way that requires human intervention under most circumstances. However, if you believe an automated decision has adversely affected you, you may contact us to request human review at support@astroverseapp.com.

14. Community Guidelines

Your use of Astroverse is also governed by our Community Guidelines, which set standards for acceptable behavior, content, and interactions on our platform. Violations of Community Guidelines may result in content removal, warnings, or account suspension/termination. Our Community Guidelines are available within the App and cover:

  • Respectful communication and behavior
  • Content standards for photos and profile information
  • Prohibited conduct (harassment, impersonation, fraud, spam)
  • Reporting mechanisms for policy violations

15. Safety Tips

We encourage all users to exercise caution when interacting with people they meet through Astroverse. Our Safety Tips, available within the App, provide guidance on:

  • Protecting your personal information
  • Meeting safely in person (public places, informing friends/family)
  • Recognizing and reporting suspicious behavior
  • Online safety best practices

Astroverse does not conduct criminal background checks on users. You are solely responsible for your own safety when communicating with and meeting other users.
